HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – It was another 90 minutes of hard work as the Finlandia University women’s soccer team (8-3-1) beat Grace Christian (8-7) 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Velting Field.
“Today our focus was putting the team first,” said head coach Grace Sokolow. “As well as rising to the challenge of doing our jobs. The girls showed a lot of heart and the score line reflected that.”
In the first half, Finlandia wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard first. Senior Kirsten L’Esperance went around the defense and found the twine just 6:22 into the contest.
Freshman Sam Linteo made several great saves in the first half to keep the Lions ahead. Goals from junior Katie Brown and senior Erika Lambert in the second half gave FinnU breathing room.
Finlandia had 22 shots with 14 on goal and one corner kick. Linteo finished with six saves.
Grace Christian had eight shots with six on goal and two corner kicks. Regan Befus had 11 saves.
Finlandia hits the trail, Wednesday, Oct. 9 playing Bethel. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. CST
