Lions Women's Basketball Loses Battle Of Big Cats

WATERTOWN, Wis. (WLUC) – Junior Bailey Froberg and sophomore Carsyn Osterman scored in double figures as the Finlandia University women’s basketball team (5-8) lost 56-47 to Maranatha Baptist (2-1), Saturday afternoon at MBU Gymnasium.

The first quarter was fairly tight the whole way. Down by four, senior Taylor Pertile knocked down a triple to make it 6-5 with 3:26 to go. At the 2:14 mark, Pertile hit a free throw to tie the game up.

In the second quarter, Maranatha Baptist held a four to eight point lead the whole way. In the third, the Sabercats looked to be on the verge of running away, up by 11 midway through.

The Lions began to scrap and claw their way back in. Sophomore Harlee Froberg hit a tough jumper to make it 37-33, MBU with 1:31 left in the third. Maranatha Baptist scored five straight to seal the deal.
For Finlandia, Froberg had scored 16 points with five steals and Osterman had 10 points and three blocks. Senior Molly Berg contributed six assists and four steals.

For Maranatha Baptist, Karley Johnson had 20 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.

Finlandia heads south to Florida, Tuesday, Dec. 17 playing #4 Hope. The game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
