MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WLUC) – Freshman Braedyn Hurd had 33 kills as the Finlandia University volleyball team (1-24) split on day one of the Mount Mary Invitational, Friday night at the Bloechl Center. The win over Dayspring Bible snapped a 25 match losing streak.
Holy Family (3-20) L – 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21)
Finlandia was solid at the net with a season-high 50 kills. Hurd led the way with 16 kills and two aces while hitting .577. Sophomore Taylor Talerico had 15 kills and 15 digs and hit .423 while freshman Taylor Hendrick had 12 kills and six total blocks, including four solos.
Freshman Ella Lindgren had 34 assists and senior Harlie Caster had 21 digs.
Dayspring Bible (2-7) W – 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-9)
Finlandia was a monster at the net with 46 kills and a hitting percentage of .448. Hurd had 17 kills with three solo blocks and her .762 hitting percentage was third best in school history. Sophomore Briana Portice had the best night of her career with 14 kills for a .560 hitting percentage.
Talerico had three aces and 10 digs and Lindgren had 28 assists with eight digs. Leading the way in digs was Caster with 14 and senior Kassandra Avila with 12.
Finlandia closes the season, Saturday, Oct. 26, taking on Mount Mary and RMU-Chicago. The matches are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. CST, respectively.
