Lions Women's Nasketball See Furious Rally Fall Short
Sophomore Katie Lundeen had a double-double as the Finlandia University women’s basketball team (0-1) lost 84-71 to Dubuque (1-0), Saturday night at the Stoltz Sports Complex.
The first period was a fairly tight affair. Lundeen scored on a layup at the 6:29 mark to put Finlandia up 9-6. Dubuque took the lead with 4:30 left and held it the rest of the period.
In the second period, the Spartans went on a 17-2 run. That made it 41-20 at 4:02 mark. Dubuque led by 18 at the break.
The Lions came out charging dropping in 3-pointers and layups like non-one’s business. Senior Taylor Pertile hit a driving layup at the 4:57 mark. That closed out a 15-0 run to make it 50-47.
FinnU refused to quit and Lundeen scored with 1:10 gone in the fourth period. The Spartans scored seven straight and Finlandia could get no closer than five the rest of the way.
The Lions out-rebounded Dubuque, 49-38 with 30 defensive boards to the Spartans 10.
For Finlandia, Lundeen had 19 points and 11 rebounds, Pertile scored 14 points and sophomore Carsyn Osterman had 10 points.
For Dubuque, Abigail Zurcher scored 30 points and Tabira Thomas had 18 points.
Finlandia heads to Wisconsin, Sunday, Nov. 10 to take on UW-Platteville. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. CST
