SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (WLUC) – It was 90 minutes of hard work as the Finlandia University women’s soccer team (11-6-1) lost 7-0 to UC Santa Cruz (13-3-2) in the ACAA Championship, Sunday afternoon at the Soccer Complex.

“Congratulations to UC Santa Cruz on a well-earned ACAA Championship,” said head coach Grace Sokolow. “The 2019 Finlandia women’s soccer team laid a foundation for many more successful seasons to come. I couldn’t be more proud of these girls and this team. Molly (Berg), Zuleiki (Wight) and Kirsten (L’Esperance) left it better than they found it and we’ll keep making it better for them.”

UC Santa Cruz came out quick with two goals in the first four minutes of the game. Finlandia set themselves and forced several turnovers. The Banana Slugs would score two goals in a seven minute span that turned the tide.

Sam Linteo finished with 12 saves. Earning all-tournament honors were sophomore Daisia Knowles, junior Erica Lambert and senior Kirsten L’Esperance.

Finlandia has concluded the 2019 season.
