Lions Men's Hockey Falls In Home Opener

HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – The Finlandia University men’s hockey team (0-3, 0-1 NCHA) lost 7-0 to #21 Aurora (3-0, 1-0 NCHA), Friday night at the Houghton County Arena.

Aurora got on the board first scoring at the 3:46 mark of the first period. Finlandia had great shots from sophomore Dylan Paavola and freshman Hunter Moreland that were knocked away at the last moment.

The Lions had two shots on target that were blocked and sophomore Cory Richardson just missed. The Spartans scored two goals in a four minute span in the opening period to turn the tide.

On face-offs, sophomore Tyler Watungwa had 11 wins and senior Blake Peavey recorded nine. Freshman Ben Kelsch had a solid collegiate debut with 11 saves in over 28 minutes of action.

Finlandia remains home, Saturday, Nov. 9 against Aurora. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
