Lions Bring the Blue Angels Down To Earth

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WLUC) – Eight different players scored points as the Finlandia University women’s soccer team (10-5-1) blanked Mount Mary (3-14) 7-0, Sunday afternoon at Blue Angels Field.

“We started out sluggish but picked it up in the second half,” said head coach Grace Sokolow. “The girls are in good spirits and we would like to carry that into training this week as well as the conference tournament this weekend.”

For the first 30 minutes, Finlandia and Mount Mary played a tactical game. At the 30:01 mark, sophomore Daisia Knowles scored off a pass from freshman Meaghan Maly.

Sophomore Addie Budzinski scored nine seconds later to make it 2-0. The Lions scored twice in the first 17 minutes of the second half to put the game away.

Budzinski finished with two goals with the other goals coming from junior Katie Brown and senior Kirsten L’Esperance. For assists, L’Esperance had two assists and freshmen Samonsha Anderson-Oliver and Brie Witt had one each.

Finlandia had 48 shots with 27 on goal, 17 corner kicks and was called for eight fouls. Freshmen Sam Linteo and Maddy Waterman combined for the shutout.

Mount Mary had three shots with one on goal and was called for a foul. Hannah Rose had 20 saves.

Finlandia heads to the west coast, Saturday, Nov. 2 to play Mills in the ACAA Championships. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. PST
