HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – Everything was left on the pitch as the Finlandia University men’s soccer team (2-9-1) played a hard fought 2-0 loss to UW-Whitewater (12-1-1), Sunday afternoon at McAfee Field.
“Today we played with more discipline,” said head coach Scott Chrysafidis. “I was pleased with our defending, especially in one-on-one situations. The guys really battled hard and kept it a close game. I was happy with our approach to the game knowing that Whitewater is a very good team.”
UW-Whitewater came out quick with a shot that hit the post and deflected away about five minutes in. Finlandia stepped it up on defense blocking six shots on target.
In the second half, the Warhawks scored twice in a one minute span to get the lead. The Lions continued to battle on every possession.
Finlandia finished the game with nine blocks. Sophomore Noah Raisanen had 13 saves.
Finlandia closes the home season, Saturday, Oct. 12 against Emmaus Bible. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
