HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) – The Michigan Tech women's basketball team is slated to play Finlandia Friday in the second exhibition game of the 2019-20 schedule at the SDC Gym starting at 6 p.m. eastern time. Admission to the game will be a cash or canned goods donation to the Husky Food Access Network (Husky FAN).
Cash donations will be accepted at the SDC Ticket Office while can donations can be made at the doors. Tickets will cost $5 without a donation and can be purchased at the SDC Ticket Office as well.
The Husky Food Access Network supports the 25% of Michigan Tech students, who reported not being able to afford food. The network provides multiple resources for the campus community, including: a campus food pantry, meal swipes, emergency food packets and educational programs. The Huskies tipped off the 2019-20 season at NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in their first exhibition game this past Thursday night. The Huskies held their own against one of the top teams in division one, holding the Phoenix to just 54 points in a 54-41 loss. Junior Baillie McGirk guided the Huskies' attack with 11 points followed by sophomore Ellie Mackay with nine points, four rebounds, and two assists. Senior Hannah Hobson chipped in eight points while senior Abbie Botz posted two points and a team best eight rebounds.
The regular season opener is at Lewis on Saturday November 9th at 4 p.m. This year's slate of games will include 13 regular season home dates, with the official home opener scheduled for Friday, November 22nd against Concordia-St. Paul.
