Huskies Fall 2-1 Against MSU-Moorhead

MOORHEAD, Minn. (WLUC) – Two quick goals in the second half sunk the Michigan Tech soccer team as it dropped a 2-1 decision against MSU-Moorhead on Friday. The Huskies see their record slip to 1-1-1 on the year, while the Dragons improved to 2-0-1.

Freshman Neve Badalow opened her account for the Huskies in the 70th minute on a scramble around the front of the goal. Sophomore Gabby Sgambati drove at the Dragon defense and cut inside to deliver a ball into the box. There was a mass of bodies surrounding the ball around the goal before the foot of Badalow struck it into the back of the net to pull the Huskies to within one.

Sophomore Grace Shaw put one in the back of the net early in the first half off a pass by junior Jesse Jacobusse, but it was wiped off the board as Shaw ventured into an offside position. The Huskies continued to pour pressure onto the Dragons as they took 10 shots and seven shots on goal to MSU-Moorhead's 3 total shots and one shot on goal, but the score remained 0-0.

The Dragons pulled ahead in the 49th minute when Jacie Osier finished off a pass from Jensen Odegaard, and three minutes later Odegaard found the back of the net off a pass from Mckenzie Ickert.

"It was a tough loss today. Moorhead made the plays to win the game and unfortunately we didn't," said head coach Michelle Jacob. "We'll regroup and get ready for Sunday."

Shaw and Jacobusse both tied for six shots and four shots on goal. Michigan Tech dominated in total shots (25-9) and corner kicks (10-0), yet they also committed more fouls (11-9).

The Huskies will look to bounce back from today's decision on Sunday as they take on Minnesota Crookston at noon EST. The Huskies have won the last five meetings against the Golden Eagles, and this will be the first meeting between the teams since a 5-0 MTU victory in 2015.
