HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – Delaney Heinonen (Hancock, Mich.) has committed to play for the Finlandia University softball team.
Heinonen has had a strong career at Hancock High School. She has been the Copper Country Conference Pitcher of the Year and a first team selection each of the last two years. As a freshman, Heinonen made All-CCC second team and helped the Bulldogs reach the district championship game.
Heinonen had success at the Little League level as well. In 2012 her 12U team won the district championship and reached the state quarterfinals. In 2014, Heinonen’s 14U team won the district title to qualify for the state tournament.
“I am thrilled to welcome Delaney to the Finlandia Softball program. She is one of the premier players in the Western Upper Peninsula and has valuable experience competing at the State Tournament level. Delaney’s versatility as a pitcher and a utility player will be a valuable asset to our team,” Finlandia Softball Head Coach Matt Farrell says.
