BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WLUC) – Michigan Tech junior Gavin Gould has been named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore Tyler Rockwell is the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week. Both Gould and Rockwell had three points in Tech's WCHA sweep of Alaska.
Gould, a native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, led the WCHA with three goals on the weekend, recording his second career hat trick Saturday against Alaska. Gould scored the first three goals for the Huskies in the 7-2 win and sweep of the Nanooks, including the game-winner. He was also plus-3 in the series. He is second on the team with five goals this season and ranks 11th in the WCHA. Gould is also second on the team with 31 career goals.
Rockwell, a native of San Jose, California, led all WCHA defensemen with three points in Tech's WCHA sweep of Alaska. He scored his first career goal Saturday while also adding a pair of assists in the game. Rockwell led the WCHA blueliners with a plus-4 rating and blocked two shots. He had an assist on Gavin Gould's game-winning goal and now has four points on the season.
Tech is 7-5 overall and 6-0 in the WCHA. The Black and Gold received votes in this week's USCHO.com Top 20 Poll. The Huskies will remain at home this weekend, hosting Bemidji State. There will be a Blue Line Luncheon on Friday at noon and Friday will also be Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, sponsored by TIAA.
