HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) – Michigan Tech junior outside hitter Olivia Ghormley was named to the BW Kelly Inn Best Western Inn Huskies Classic All-Tournament Team on Sunday, Sept. 15. It was the second all-tournament team selection this season and the fifth of her career.
Ghormley (Oneida, Wisconsin) led the No. 21-ranked Huskies with 54 kills on the weekend, averaging 3.9 kills per set. On 148 attempts she only had 12 errors for a .283 hitting percentage. She played in 14 sets over the four matches and had a pair of double-doubles on Friday. In a 3-1 win over Bemidji State in the afternoon, she tallied 25 kills, hit .449, registered a block, and 12 digs. Against tournament host St. Cloud State in the evening, she had a career-high 17 digs while adding 12 kills. Ghormley also added 11 kills versus No. 6 Minnesota Duluth Thursday and six kills in a sweep of Minnesota Crookston Saturday.
Ghormley is one of three Huskies ranked in the top six of the GLIAC in hitting percentages at .302. She ranks third in the GLIAC in kills per set (4.07) and is the only player of the top three hitting over .300. For her career, Ghormley has 985 career points and 929 career kills.
The Huskies went 2-2 in St. Cloud and are 5-3 on the season—all against opponents from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Tech opens GLIAC play this weekend at Davenport Friday and Grand Valley State Saturday.
