Former Gladstone Athletic Director Matt Houle passes away at 57

GLADSTONE, Mich. (WLUC) - Former Gladstone Athletic Director and assistant coach Matt Houle died Friday night, Nov. 9, at the age of 57.

Houle was the Braves Athletic Director for 15 years. In that time, he was the assistant coach to Gary Whitmer when the Braves won six straight U.P. Division One boys track titles between 2004 and 2009 and one more in 2013. The braves also won three state softball titles during his a.d. tenure.

Houle was named U.P. Athletic Director of the Year in 2005 and earned a regional A.D. title from the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association in 2010.

Houle was also heavily involved with Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Special Olympics and the YMCA in Delta County.

Family will receive friends this Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Gladstone High School auditorium. A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for this Thursday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone.

Memorials may be sent to the Special Olympics of Delta County. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Houle family.
