Finlandia Women's Hockey stays close to Concordia-Moorhead

MOORHEAD, Mn. It was a valiant effort as the Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-12) lost 3-1 to Concordia-Moorhead (7-4-1), Friday night at Moorhead Sports Center.

Finlandia had the first opportunity as freshman Brenna Ceglar had a shot saved at the last minute. Concordia-Moorhead scored at the 3:42 mark to take a 1-0 lead in the first period.

18 seconds later, junior Natasha Kern blasted one into the net to even the contest at 1-1. The game was tied for over 24 minutes before the Cobbers took the lead in the second period.

Within a minute after the goal, freshman Taylor Pingrey had two great chances that were denied. CMC got an insurance goal in the third period.

Sophomore Abby Kolek led the team with 11 face-off wins. Junior Annah Smiddy had 51 saves on the night. That gives her 1605 career saves, just 18 shy of the school record.

Finlandia stays on the road, Saturday, Dec. 15, taking on Concordia-Moorhead. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. CST
