HANCOCK, Mi. One tough period was the difference as the Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-16, 0-9 NCHA) lost 6-2 to #5 Adrian (13-3, 9-0 NCHA), Saturday afternoon at the Houghton County Arena.
Finlandia frustrated Adrian with numerous blocks and saves throughout the first period. Freshman Taylor Pingrey had a shot that just missed with four minutes left in the period.
At the 18:03 mark of the first, the Bulldogs finally managed to break through the Lion defense. Adrian scored five goals in the second to seal the game.
Senior Catlin Siegel and junior Bella Abear scored for FinnU. Finlandia was very active on defense with 19 blocks for the game.
On face-offs, freshman Malone Hiebert had 11 wins. Junior Annah Smiddy finished with 68 saves, third best in school history.
Finlandia remains at the HOCO, Sunday, Jan. 20 taking on Adrian. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
