HANCOCK, Wi. It was 60 minutes of heart as the Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-6, 0-3 NCHA) lost 4-0 to St. Norbert (1-3, 1-0 NCHA), Friday night at the HOCO.
Four minutes into the contest, sophomore India Charles fired a blast that was somehow grabbed by the St. Norbert goalie. Senior Annah Smiddy stopped 14 shots.
In the first five minutes of the second period, Finlandia had two great chances that just missed. The Green Knights managed to get a goal at the 8:23 mark.
Just as the period ended, senior Bella Abear had a shot saved at the last moment. St. Norbert scored three goals in the final period to finally pull away.
The Lion defense was very active with 13 blocks. On face-offs, sophomore Malone Hiebert had 11 wins. Smiddy finished with 34 saves.
Finlandia remains, Saturday, Nov. 23 against St. Norbert. The game is scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m.
