GENEVA, Ill. (WLUC) – The Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-5, 0-2 NCHA) never stopped fighting in a 4-0 loss to Aurora (6-0, 2-0 NCHA), Saturday afternoon at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

Just 90 seconds into the game, freshman Cassidy Becia blasted a shot that nabbed at the last moment. Aurora got on the board at the 8:58 mark. As the period ended, senior Kait Ryynanen had a shot on target blocked.

Senior Sarah Gundry kept Finlandia in the game for almost the first two periods with great saves. At the 14:05 mark, Becia was robbed again of a potential goal. The Spartans scored twice in the final five minutes of the middle period to seal the deal.

The Lion defense was very active with 24 blocks. Sophomore India Charles led the charge with 10 blocks. Gundry finished with 31 saves.

Finlandia opens the home season, Friday, Nov. 22 against St. Norbert. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
