Finlandia Women's Hockey shut out by St. Benedict

ST. CLOUD, Mn. The Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-10) played hard for 60 minutes as they lost 6-0 to Saint Benedict (6-4), Friday night at Ritschie Arena.

Sophomore Malone Hiebert had shot that was knocked away at the last minute, two minutes into the game. Saint Benedict drew first blood at the 5:49 mark.

Finlandia got some great saves from senior Annah Smiddy to keep them in the game. The Lions had two great opportunities that were denied. The Bennies scored twice for a 3-0 lead after 26 minutes.

FinnU had shots from senior Kait Ryynanen and junior Abby Kolek that just missed. CSB scored twice in a two minute span late in the second period to seal the game.

The Lions were aggressive coming away with 10 blocked shots. Smiddy finished the night with 47 saves.

Finlandia remains on the road, Saturday, Jan. 11 taking on Saint Benedict. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. CST
