Finlandia Women's Basketball Stops The March Of The Crusaders

DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) – Sophomore Katie Lundeen had a double-double as the Finlandia University women’s basketball team (2-5) beat Great Lakes Christian (0-7) 75-42, Saturday afternoon at the Doty Center.

The first period was a back-and-forth affair for almost the whole way. Great Lakes Christian hit a lay-up to tie the game at 8-8 with 1:51 to go.
At the 1:22 mark, sophomore Carsyn Osterman hit a jumper to spark a run of seven straight points to end the period. Finlandia went on an 8-1 run in the first four minutes of the second period and never looked back.

The Lion defense was hitting on all cylinders. FinnU held the Crusaders to 17.7% from the floor and 12% from behind the arc while out-rebounding them by 18. The Lions blocked 12 shots, breaking the school record of 10 set against Great Lakes Christian (Dec. 17, 2017).

For Finlandia, Lundeen had 30 points, 10 rebounds, blocked three shots and hit 13-of-19 from the floor. Osterman had 10 points, seven assists, two steals and blocked two shots. Off the bench, freshman Casana Ryynanen had 14 points and nine rebounds and senior Molly Berg scored nine points with five assists and four steals.

For Great Lakes Christian, Tilly Guild had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Randi Fitzgerald scored 11.

Finlandia returns home, Tuesday, Nov. 26, taking on St. Scholastica. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
