HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – Sophomores Katie Lundeen and Carsyn Osterman scored in double figures as the Finlandia University women’s basketball team (5-7) beat UW-River Falls (4-4) 75-65, Saturday afternoon at the Paavo Nurmi Center.
“Overall we played with a lot of tenacity today,” said head coach Mariah Dunham. “When we played them a week ago, they were winning the hustle plays. We needed to change that. We did a great job in the second half of knocking their threes out and making sure we got the ball inside. Very proud of my team. It’s important to protect your home court and we did just that.”

The Falcons closed the first period on a 10-3 run to trail, 20-16. The second period was back and forth action with neither team leading by more than four. UWRF closed with a 6-2 run to lead by four at the break.
The first two minutes of the third period, UW-River Falls built up a five point lead 41-36. Lundeen hit a bucket to start the FinnU hit parade. Finlandia scored 13 straight points over the next four minutes to effectively end the contest.
