DEPERE, Wi. A last minute goal was the difference as the Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-4, 0-3 NCHA) lost 5-3 to St. Norbert (2-2, 2-1 NCHA), Friday night at Resch Oly Pavilion.

“It was another good game but not good enough,” said head coach Matt Marchel. “We generated some good offense and defended well. Annah (Smiddy) was once again outstanding. We didn’t clear loose pucks with any force.”

Finlandia put St. Norbert on the defensive early as junior Kait Ryynanen scored just 1:13 into the contest. The Green Knights scored twice to take the lead.

With 1:04 left in the second period, senior Kallin Morris scored her first career goal to tie the game up. St. Norbert scored twice in about a minute to go up by two.

The Lions had several near misses in front of the net. Midway through the final stanza, Ryynanen blasted one through to close the gap to one. The Green Knights clinched the game with 13 seconds left.

Senior Natasha Kern and freshman Taylor Pingrey had two assists each. Junior Annah Smiddy had 42 saves.

Finlandia remains on the road, Saturday, Nov. 10 taking on St. Norbert. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. CST
