Finlandia Volleyball makes progress in Wisconsin

OSHKOSH, Wi. The Finlandia University volleyball team (0-19) closed out the UW-Oshkosh Marty Petersen Invitational, Saturday at the Kolf Sports Center.

St. Norbert (19-6) – Lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-6)

In the first set, Finlandia forced an error to close the gap to 3-2. St. Norbert went on a 7-1 run to take control.

In the second set, the Lions hung tough with the Green Knights early on. Freshman Taylor Hendrick stuffed the hitter to make it 7-4, SNC. St. Norbert pulled out a 7-3 run to effectively end the set.

In the third set, the Green Knights scored the first 16 points to end the match.

For Finlandia, sophomore Taylor Talerico had 12 digs while Hendrick had two total blocks.

UW-Oshkosh (18-6) – Lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-14)

In the first set, Finlandia threw everything including the kitchen sink at UW-Oshkosh. Hendrick smashed the ball off the block to make it 11-10, Titans. UWO then turned around with a 6-1 run to get breathing room.

In the second set, UW-Oshkosh started off with a 10-3 run and never looked back.

In the third set, the Lions and Titans battled back and forth for a good portion of the set. Freshman Braedyn Hurd unleashed a bomb to make it 15-13, UWO. UW-Oshkosh reeled off six straight points to close the match

For Finlandia, Hendrick had eight kills and hit .250 while Talerico had nine digs.

Finlandia finishes the home season, Tuesday, Oct. 15 against Northland. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
