RIPON, Wi. Junior Harlie Caster had six hits as the Finlandia University softball team (7-17) swept Ripon (6-12) 11-8 and 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at Tracy Field.
In game one, in the first inning, Caster singled, stole second and moved to third on a ground out. Another ground out would score Caster.
Ripon would tie the game in the bottom of the first. In the third inning, with two outs, freshman Rheanna Bain singled to score junior Denia Bent and move junior Makenna Gorham to third. Finlandia pulled off a double steal to plate Gorham.
The Red Hawks would take a 3-3 tie into the sixth inning. The Lions exploded for eight hits and eight runs to seal the game.
For Finlandia, Caster had three hits and scored two runs and Gorham had two hits and drove in three runs. Sophomore Kyndell Coffman (1-1) gave up three hits, five runs, walked three and struck out one in 2.7 innings.
For Ripon, Cortney Bols (0-5) gave up 13 hits, 11 runs, seven earned, walked five and struck out two in 5.7 innings.
In game two, it was a scoreless tie after four innings. FinnU used six hits and a walk to score six runs and clinch the game.
For Finlandia, Caster had three hits while Gorham and sophomore Cassy Lopez had two hits each. Bent (3-7) threw an eight-hitter with two strikeouts.
For Ripon, Claire Luebke had three hits and she (0-1) gave up 10 hits, six runs and walked one in 4.7 innings.
Finlandia is off until Wednesday, Apr. 10 when they play Chicago. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. CST.
