Finlandia Slugs It Out With Aurora

GENEVA, Ill. (WLUC) – It was a fight for 60 minutes as the Finlandia University women’s hockey team (1-24, 1-17 NCHA) fell 5-1 to Aurora (8-13-4, 5-10-3 NCHA), Friday afternoon at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

In the first seven minutes of the game, Finlandia had two great scoring opportunities that were denied. Aurora stepped it up and scored twice in a five minute span.

Just before the first period ended, senior Catlin Siegel just missed putting the puck into the net. The Spartans made it 3-0 at the 1:24 mark of the second period.

With 15:13 to go in the second, freshman Taylor Pingrey fired the puck to sophomore Abby Kolek who scored. The Lions blasted shot after shot at Becca Binder who managed to deflect them all.

The Lions were very aggressive on power plays with 13 shots on four opportunities. Kolek had an incredible win percentage of .773 on face-offs. Junior Sarah Gundry had 29 saves.

Finlandia has concluded the 2018-19 season.
