Finlandia Men's Hockey snake bitten again this time by Trine

hancock, mI. The Finlandia University men’s hockey team (3-13-2, 1-10-2 NCHA) never stopped battling in a tough 3-2 overtime loss to Trine (8-7-1, 6-4-1 NCHA), Friday night at the Houghton County Arena.

Trine came out aggressive and senior Marcus Gloss made several great saves to keep the Thunder away. Trine finally managed to break through with 4:05 to go to lead 1-0.

In the second period, Finlandia had two great shots that just missed in the first two minutes. At the 8:03 mark, sophomore Dylan Paavola blasted one through to tie the game at 1-1.

Just a little over two minutes later, freshman Tyler Vanuden scored a power play goal to put the Lions up 2-1. The Thunder tied it back up with 4:59 to go.

In the third period, FinnU and Trine both had great scoring opportunities that just missed. In the final minute of the period, Finlandia had three shots that were somehow saved by the Thunder goalie.

In overtime, sophomore Cory Richardson had a shot that was somehow stopped by the goalie. At the 2:47 mark, Trine got the puck through to end the game.

Freshman Zach Erhardt had two assists on the night. Senior Blake Peavey was strong on face-offs with 15 wins for a .683 win percentage. Gloss finished with 28 saves.

Finlandia remains home, Saturday, Jan. 18 playing Trine. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
