ADRIAN, Mi. SISU was on display at center ice as the Finlandia University men’s hockey team (2-1-1, 1-1-1 NCHA) lost 5-1 to #5 Adrian (4-1, 2-1 NCHA), Friday night at Arrington Ice Arena.
“We battled as a young team tonight,” said head coach Joe Burcar. “We went out and competed for 60 minutes against one of the best teams in the country. Our performance will be a valuable learning lesson.”
Adrian came out very aggressive with two goals in the first five minutes of the game. Finlandia stepped it up and held the Bulldogs off the board for almost the next 34 minutes.
With less than four minutes left in the first, senior Bryce Mitzel fired the puck and just missed getting the goal. The Lions had numerous strong scoring opportunities in the second period.
Adrian scored twice in the span of two minutes to take charge. At the 7:35 mark of the third period, sophomore Cale Markham scored a short-handed goal to break up the shutout.
Sophomore Marcus Gloss was a rock all night ending with 42 saves.
Finlandia stays on the road, Saturday, Nov. 10 taking on Trine. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
