Finlandia Men's Hockey falls to Concordia Falcons

MEQUON, Wi. The Finlandia University men’s hockey team (3-8-2, 1-6-2 NCHA) never stopped battling in a 3-1 loss to Concordia Wisconsin (7-4-1, 3-3-1 NCHA), Friday night at Ozaukee Ice Center.

The story of the night was the stellar play of goalies Bo Didur and junior Marcus Gloss who combined for 74 saves. With just over eight minutes gone, junior Cale Markham fired a shot that was saved at the last minute.

Concordia Wisconsin managed to break through at the 9:38 mark for a 1-0 lead. Finlandia came out blazing in the second period. The Lions had three potential goals robbed by the goalie in the first two minutes.

With 9:19 left in the middle period, the Falcons picked up another goal for the 2-0 lead. The rest of the period saw CUW and FinnU trading great saves.

The third period was more of the same. With 1:40 left, Finlandia pulled Gloss for the extra attacker. It paid off as Markham put the puck into the net 22 seconds later to make it 2-1. The Lions had two near misses in a 15 second span after the goal. With 53 seconds left, Concordia Wisconsin scored an empty netter to seal the game.

On face-offs, senior Blake Peavey and freshman Tyler Vanuden had 12 and 11 wins, respectively. Gloss finished the game with 40 saves.

Finlandia plays Concordia Wisconsin, Saturday, Jan. 4. The game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. CST
