RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WLUC) – It was 60 minutes of battle as the Finlandia University men’s hockey team (0-2) lost 5-1 to UW-River Falls (2-0), Saturday night at Hunt Arena.
UW-River Falls came out quick scoring with 1:13 into the game. Finlandia turned up the pressure getting numerous scoring opportunities. Freshman Zach Erhardt just missed with three minutes to go.
With 53 seconds left in the opening period, Erhardt fired a perfect pass to junior Connor Hannon. Hannon converted to tie the game at 1-1.
In the first 10 minutes of the second period, the Lions had five great chances that were denied by the Falcon goalie. UWRF scored twice in a three minute span in the middle period to turn the tide.
Once again the Lions remained aggressive on defense by blocking 13 shots. Sophomore Santeri Seppaenen finished with 35 saves.
Finlandia opens the home and NCHA season, Friday, Nov. 8 against Aurora. The game is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.
