APPLETON, Wis. (WLUC) – Junior Jacob Oom, junior Dylan Underwood and sophomore River Shumate scored in double figures as the Finlandia University men’s basketball team (0-4) fell 107-72 to Lawrence (1-0), Saturday afternoon at Alexander Gymnasium.
The first six minutes, Finlandia and Lawrence played on even terms. Oom dropped in a bomb from downstate to make it 7-6, Vikings with 14:46 to go.
Lawrence pushed the lead to nine points at the 10:55 mark. Junior Jamal DeShields-Beard hit a turnaround jumper to make it 17-10 with 9:19 to go. The Vikings went on an 8-1 run to effectively end the game.
The Lions pulled down 25 defensive boards to 12 offensive for Lawrence. FinnU also held the Vikings to 33.3% shooting on triples and only seven second chance points.
For Finlandia, Underwood had 25 points, five assists and three steals, Oom scored 14 points with three 3-pointers and Shumate had 12 points and was 5-of-5 from the line.
For Lawrence, Brad Sendell scored 27 points.
Finlandia remains on the road, Tuesday, Nov. 19 playing Wisconsin Lutheran. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. CST
