Finlandia Men fall to the Lumberjacks

ASHLAND, Wi Four players in double figures was not enough as the Finlandia University men’s basketball team (0-13) lost 101-66 to Northland (4-8), Thursday night at the Kendrigan Center.

“We were out worked and outplayed from the start,” said head coach Sam Casey. “Credit to Northland who played a complete game for 40 minutes. We have the desire but until our collective willingness to do the little things, the hard things with energy and enthusiasm, we will continue to be disappointed.”

The two teams played cautious for the first four minutes. Junior Dylan Underwood hit a jumper to put Finlandia up 9-6 at the 16:16 mark.

Northland tried to put the game away with a 15-2 run to lead 21-11 with 13:39 to go. The Lions fought back and freshman Devin Moultrie made it 23-19 at the 12:43 mark. The Lumberjacks outscored FinnU 14-2 over the next seven minutes to seal the game.

For Finlandia, Underwood had 16 points and six assists and sophomore Joe Heinonen had 13 points, 11 rebounds and blocked two shots. Moultrie had 11 points and junior Jacob Oom scored 10.

For Northland, Devyn Frye had 19 points and 15 rebounds.

Finlandia host Alma, Saturday, Jan.4. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
