HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – The Finlandia University football team (0-4, 0-1 MIAA) opened the MIAA season with a 63-6 loss to Olivet (4-0, 1-0 MIAA), Saturday afternoon at McAfee Field.
In the first quarter, Finlandia held Olivet in check most of the way. The only score was when the Comets recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. Olivet scored 35 points in the second quarter to seal the game.
Offensively, the Lions ran for 126 yards, the most yards that Olivet (#10 in rushing defense in NCAA D3 – 48 yards per game) has given up this season. Sophomore Kenny Kujawa caught five passes including one for 27 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, FinnU (#1 in passing defense in NCAA D3 – 69 yards per game) gave up just 64 yards in the air. Freshmen Marvin Anthony and Christian Creten had 12 tackles each.
Finlandia hits the road, Saturday, Oct. 12 to play Kalamazoo College. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
