Finlandia Baseball swept in doubleheader

FORT MYERS, Fl. The Finlandia University baseball team (1-7) fell 17-2 and 10-0 to Wisconsin Lutheran (4-1), Tuesday at Terry Park.

Wisconsin Lutheran started out fast with eight runs in the first two innings. In the second inning, junior Devonte Fleming was hit by a pitch.

Junior Jean Pimentel sent the ball over the left field fence to get Finlandia on the board. A five spot in the fourth sealed the game for the Warriors.

For Finlandia, Freshman Matt Griffith (0-1) gave up three hits, five runs, three earned, walked two and struck out one in ione inning.

For Wisconsin Lutheran, Jake Schwall had three hits and drove in four runs. Sid Lehman (1-0) gave up three hits, two runs, walked one and struck out six in seven innings.

In the nightcap, a pair of singles in the first had senior Shawn Knutson at third and junior Nic Geiser at first. Wisconsin Lutheran got the next batter out to escape.

Down 4-0 after three, in the fourth, Pimentel reached on an error and moved to second on a single from Fleming. The Warriors got a ground ball to end the inning and then scored six in the fifth inning to clinch the game.

For Finlandia, freshman Jeff Saich (0-1) gave up 14 hits, 10 runs, nine earned and walked one in four innings. Junior Steve Guberti gave up just one hit in two innings of relief.

For Wisconsin Lutheran, Jacob Kopplin (1-0) threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts in seven innings.

Finlandia takes on FDU-Florham, Wednesday, Mar. 11. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
