Finlandia Baseball has tough time at UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wi. The Finlandia University baseball team (2-10, 0-2 WIAC) lost 10-0 and 21-7 to UW-Oshkosh (9-6, 2-0 WIAC), Saturday at Tiedemann Field.

In game one, Finlandia kept UW-Oshkosh in check for the first three innings. The Titans were held to three hits and three runs. Oshkosh scored four runs in the fourth to take control.

For Finlandia, sophomore Sawyer Murrell (0-2) gave up seven hits, seven runs, six earned, walked three and struck out two in 3.7 innings.

For Oshkosh, Colan Treml (4-1) threw a one-hitter with a walk and 11 strikeouts in seven innings.

In the nightcap, Finlandia drew first blood in its first at-bats. Junior Patrick Coles singled to left field and scored off a double from senior Joey Krug.

UW-Oshkosh would score 10 runs in the bottom of the first to turn the game around. The Lions finished strong over the last two innings.

In the sixth with two outs, singles by freshman Austin Green, junior Isaac Rodriguez and senior Daniel Logan had the bases loaded.

Murrell drew a walk to score Green. Sophomore Lane Brown singled to score Rodriguez and Logan. An error on the play would score Murrell and put Brown at second. In the seventh inning, Logan would single to drive in two runs.

For Finlandia, Logan had two hits and drove in two runs, Green had two hits and Coles scored two runs. Coles (0-2) gave up six hits, 10 runs, nine earned, and walked three in 2/3rd of an inning.

For Oshkosh, Ryan Wilkening (3-2) gave up six hits, five runs, four earned, walked one and struck out seven in 5.7 innings.

Finlandia closes out the series against UW-Oshkosh, Sunday, Mar. 31. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon, CST.
