KENOSHA, Wi. Three players scored in double figures as the Finlandia University men’s basketball team (0-6) fell 122-64 to Carthage (4-0), Friday night at Tarble Arena. It was day one of the Honda of Kenosha Classic.
“This game was more of a gut check challenge than anything else and collectively we came up short,” said head coach Sam Casey. “These are things you can’t see in a box score, the intangible attributes of successful students and student-athletes. We’re on to Aurora!!”
The first eight minutes of the contest was a game. Sophomore Joe Heinonen dropped in a triple to put Finlandia up 7-6 at the 17:14 mark.
Carthage eventually pushed the lead to 10, 17-7 with 13:47 to go. Sophomore River Shumate nailed a three from the river bank to make it 17-10 at 12:12 mark. The Red Men scored five straight and was off and running.
The Lions turned the ball over just 10 times. FinnU pulled down 23 defensive boards to 13 offensive for Carthage.
For Finlandia, freshman Devin Moultrie and junior Jacob Oom had 14 points each while Shumate scored 10 off the bench.
For Carthage, Kienan Baltimore scored 23 points.
