Autumn Monsma Named GLIAC North Player of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. (WLUC) -- Senior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Player of the Week after leading the Northern Michigan University Volleyball team to an undefeated weekend at the Midwest Region Conference Crossover.

The senior led the team with 45 aces, hitting at a .318 clip over three matches and also added three aces. Defensively, Monsma finished second on the team with 28 digs as well as seven blocks.

In the team's first match, a 3-1 victory over Cedarville University, Monsma tied for a team's lead with 12 kills and had a team-best 11 digs. She followed it with 23 kills and 10 digs as NMU defeated the University of Southern Indiana 3-1.

In the final match of the weekend with Missouri University of Science & Technology, she finished with 10 kills, three aces and seven digs to help guide NMU to a 3-0 victory.

The Wildcats finished the weekend 3-0 and improved to 14-8 on the season. NMU was the only GLIAC school to finish the weekend with three victories and finished ahead of Ferris State University, Michigan Technological University and Ashland University, who all finished 2-1 for the weekend.

Monsma and the Wildcats will return to GLIAC play this weekend as they host Saginaw Valley State University on Friday night at 7 p.m. then welcome Lake Superior State University Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at 4:30 p.m.
