DE PERE, Wis. (WLUC) – It was 60 minutes of great hockey as the Finlandia University men’s hockey team (8-16-2) lost 2-1 to #4 St. Norbert (19-4-3), Friday night at Cornerstone Center in an NCHA Quarterfinal game.
“We played well as a team,” said head coach Joe Burcar.
The game was low scoring due to great saves from sophomore Marcus Gloss and T.J. Black. St. Norbert and Finlandia stepped up their defense with numerous blocks on both sides.
The Green Knights managed to get one through at the 1:40 mark of the second period. 29 seconds later, senior Kendall Bolen-Porter blew past everyone and blasted the puck home.
That tied it up at 1-1. SNC picked up a goal late in the second period. In the third period, the Lions put up an aggressive attack. St. Norbert managed to hold FinnU off.
Finlandia shut down the Green Knights on the power play by not allowing a single shot. Gloss finished with 27 saves.
Finlandia remains on the road, Saturday, Feb. 16, taking on St. Norbert at 7:00 p.m. CST. A win by the Lions would force a mini-game.
