MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - A touring show choir is in the Upper Peninsula promoting their upcoming performing arts workshop.

The Young Americans visited Lakeview Elementary school in Negaunee this morning. Four team members spoke to third and fourth graders about the benefits of music, dance and performance.

The workshop will include two days of instruction and rehearsal, all cultivating with a performance on the third day.

The group only visits the U.P. once every three years. They hope the students are excited about this unique opportunity.

“This is something that is out of the ordinary, something that’s not like a class day or a sport, it’s something totally different. It’s a place they can feel safe to try something new and to take risks, learn about themselves and learn what they’re capable of,” said Young American Team Member Giorgi Nowicki.

Each year, the Young Americans visit more than 200 communities and work with more than 50,000 students.

The workshop takes place October 20-22 at Westwood High School, and is open to all third through twelfth graders.
