MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Wreaths Across America held a special ceremony at Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette Saturday.
The mission of the event is to remember, honor and teach the value of freedom.
Seven remembrance wreaths, each representing a different branch of the military were displayed on the grounds.
Members of the American Legion Post 44, Sea Cadets, Daughters of the American Revolution, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and military veterans and spouses were all on hand to celebrate the occasion.
Similar events were also held this weekend all across the country. While these ceremonies have been held annually for several decades, this is the first time the event was held in Marquette.
Heather Modell, Location Coordinator from Wreaths Across America of Marquette says she hopes to gather growing support from the community to honor those that have fought and died to truly make America great.
"Hopefully next year we will be able to raise enough funds and have enough sponsorship to garner enough wreaths to cover the almost 1400 veteran graves that we have just here at Holy Cross," Modell announced.
