TV6 and FOX UP viewers have been inquiring about the lack of a current temperature for the Village of Ontonagon on our current temperatures graphic. So, this post is to provide some clarification. There are no working weather stations in the Ontonagon area right now. Therefore we have no current temperatures for that side of the U.P.

We reached out to the local National Weather Service office in Negaunee Township to find out more information. They confirmed there are no MADIS or METAR sites located there. However, they will be adding a marine site near the Village of Ontonagon. It will be located at a previous site, which was taken down about seven years ago. As of now, there is no official date for when it will be up and running.

Due to the lack of a reporting weather station, the Ontonagon site has been removed from our weather graphic until there is an active site located there. In order for those current temperatures to be displayed in our system, there will have to be about 30 days of consistent reports from a weather station. Even when the new site gets up and running it may take some time for data to be shown in our weather system.
