MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Downtown Marquette Farmers Market kicked off their new Wednesday Evening Market on June 12.
Vendors filled the Marquette Commons for opening night.
This event will be happening every Wednesday from five to seven p.m. until September 25.
According to Market Manager Myra Zyburt, several farmer vendors approached the Marquette Downtown Development Authority during the winter with the idea of adding another day during the week.
These farmers had been able to increase their capacity in their growing and were looking for another outlet for the direct consumer purchasing.
There are also several alternative options for payment at the market.
“The fact that we have food assistance so that helps make it really accessible to everybody,” says Zyburt. “So far since we opened on May 25, we have been able to distribute over $5,000 in the Hoophouses for Health program, in addition to SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks and Senior Market Fresh.”
Zyburt says whether you come Wednesday evening or Saturday morning, there is something here for everyone.
