ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - Walleye season opened Wednesday and anglers hit the Escanaba River to find their big catch.
Employees at Bay View Bait and Tackle in Gladstone said they only heard from a few people, but all said the fishing was good.
The mouth of the Escanaba River and Bay de Noc are always popular spots, with plenty of boats in the water.
Bay View owner Chris Wahl says this is a good time to get out if you're looking for dinner.
"This time of year it's mostly smaller, good eating size fish, smaller males that are dropping out of the river. They're perfect fish for eating, lot of fish in the 15 to 19 inch range," said Wahl.
The limit for walleye is 5 fish, with a minimum length of 15 inches.
