Walk a Mile in My Shoes looks to reduce stigma of asking for help with mental illness

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The 3rd annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes rally is coming later this week. The event is hosted by Pathways Community Mental Health with other community agencies also on hand.

Following brief remarks from guest speakers it's a free, one-mile walk, in Marquette. Rally organizers hope the walk helps eliminate the stigma of asking for help with mental illness issues.

"People should come out and participate so that they can see that there are many people in our community who could use help, people who are getting help and people who are success stories. We'll have a couple of speakers who will be telling their personal stories," said Pathways Community Mental Health Employee, Brenda Stacey.

The Walk a Mile in My Shoes rally is Thursday, May 16, from 1-4 p.m. Again, the event is free and it's held at the Marquette Commons.
