ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - Two Escanaba radio stations could soon have new ownership.
Aurora Media, LLC announced Thursday that it has assumed management and operations of WDBC-AM 680 & WYKX-FM 104.7 through a Local Marketing Agreement as of Jan. 1.
Pending FCC approval, Aurora Media, is acquiring the stations from KMB Broadcasting, Inc, who has owned the stations for more than 40 years. The stations have won numerous prestigious awards under their ownership.
In Feb. 2017, Upper Peninsula-based Sovereign Communication said it had reached a deal to acquire the two stations for just less than $1 million. That deal was not completed.
Todd Mohr and Janine Gregorski-Mohr own Aurora Media. The Mohrs have 35 years of radio station experience, most recently owning stations in Manistee, Ludington and Traverse City.
Todd identifies as an "old-time radio guy" who loves local radio and what it brings to local communities. He feels that local radio is a glue that can bring an area together and he has seen first hand that local radio is an essential service in informing and entertaining people from others who live, work and play in the same region.
For WDBC-AM and WYKX-FM, Todd has said that, "it is our plan to build on the legacy of these great radio stations, and we look forward to serving our listeners and local business' in Escanaba, Delta County, and the surrounding area".
WYKX FM programs Country as Kix Country 104.7 and WDBC AM 680 programs Oldies. Both stations carry local news, weather, sports, and local information, and will continue to provide the same excellent programming and service as they have for the last 40 years.
