A portion of U.S. 2 was closed down for several hours Sunday for a vehicle fire.

The Delta County Sheriff's Department reports a 40 foot motorhome, towing a car, caught on fire. This happened around 11:14 a.m. Sunday, on U.S. 2 near Z Road in Rapid River.

To better battle the fire, the highway was closed down in both directions. Westbound traffic was eventually allowed back through, with the entire stretch back open at 2:20 p.m.

The people in the vehicle escaped without injury. One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. Both the motorhome and car are a complete loss.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Ensign Township Fire Department, Masonville Township Fire Department, Nahma Township Fire Department, Masonville EMS, Rampart EMS, Delta County Search and Rescue, Delta County Road Commission, Genes Towing, and the Michigan State Police.
