UPPER PENINSULA, Mich. (WLUC) - The Upper Peninsula was voted the winning location in USA Today's 10Best Destinations for Fall Foliage Readers' Choice Awards for 2018.
The U.P. beat out 19 other locations to claim the top spot.
Ahead of this viewer vote, USA Today 10Best local experts and editors chose their top 20 locations for viewing the autumn colors. Some other destinations that were in the running included Aspen, Colorado; Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park in Maine; the Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota; Door County, Wisconsin; Glacier National Park in Montana; and the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
The page on 10best.com, part of USA Today, says, "Just about the entire Upper Peninsula puts on a display of fall color that peaks during the last two weeks of September and the first week of October. A favorite fall experience for leaf peepers is the drive along M-26 along the shores of Lake Roland and past the trees of Copper Country State Forest."
The winners were announced at noon on Friday, October 12. The top 10 winners in the Best Destination for Fall Foliage category are as follows, in order 1-10:
