ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - Upper Hand Brewery is releasing a series of limited edition beers that pay homage to the proud Finnish heritage here in the Upper Peninsula.
The series aims to capture the flavors of traditional Scandinavian dishes and treats that blend well with Sisu Stout. That's their newest bourbon barrel-aged stout.
The first beer of the series, is set to launch December 6, with a new beer being released every three weeks through March.
The Sisu Stout series will only be available in 10 ounce drafts at the Upper Hand Taproom in Escanaba.
No growlers or retail bottles or cans will be available, said Upper Hand Brewery Production Manager Sam Reese, but flavor and the unique experience are well worth it.
"We're going to be reaching very far for the acquisition of these ingredients. So we're looking to get some cloud berries imported. We're looking for the Finnish salty licorices called Salmiakki imported from Finland. So these are going to be flavors that are not only not well represented within craft beer, but are fairly difficult to find even in our pretty heavily Finnish community," said Reese.
Reese says to make sure to keep up to date with your Sisu Stout punch card. When you try all six batches, you'll earn a special commemorative Sisu Stout glass.
