US Army World Class Athlete visits Northern Michigan University, trains with students

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The United States Olympic Training Site at Northern Michigan University had a very special guest Monday, Private First Class Hayden Tuma with the United States Army.

Tuma is a wrestler and a member of the World Class Athlete Program in the Army. The program employs world class athletes in almost every Olympic sport and gives them a chance to qualify for the Olympics, while also serving their country.

Tuma spoke to NMU wrestlers, as well as high school wrestlers from Marquette County, about the benefits of the program and the Army.

“It gives me an opportunity to serve my country more than just the athletic side,” said Tuma. “I also get to build a lot of great characteristics and there's plenty of things the Army offers that can help build value in your life.”

Tuma will tour the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin all week, visiting schools in Sault Ste. Marie, Escanaba and Rhinelander.
