UPDATE: Two taken to hospital after crash near Shiras Hills

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE: 12:54 P.M. Thursday, Feb. 21:

Thursday Morning, Officers from the Marquette Police Department responded to a traffic crash on US-41 South near Tonti St.

67-year-old Edward Gudewicz of Skandia was northbound on US-41 when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line into the path of another vehicle. That car was driven by 59-year-old Bonnie Tennant of Negaunee.

Both drivers were transported to U.P. Health System-Marquette by ambulance due to injuries sustained in the crash.

US-41 South traffic was diverted to S. Lake St. while the investigation and roadway clearing were being conducted.

The accident is still under investigation and the extent of injuries is unknown at this time. Speed and road conditions are believed to be factors in the crash.

The Marquette Police Department were assisted on scene by, Marquette City Fire Department, Upper Peninsula Health Systems EMS, Michigan State Police, Marquette County Sheriff’s Department and Marquette City Public Works.

UPDATE at 11:25 a.m. Thursday:

MDOT says the incident is clear and US-41 has reopened.


A crash has closed US-41 South Thursday morning near Shiras Hills, on the south side of Marquette.

Police say all US-41 traffic is being rerouted onto Lake Street.

No details about the crash are immediately available. It happened around 9:00 a.m.
