SANDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) is preparing for a free adoption day this weekend.
Thanks to a grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and Subaru, the no-kill shelter will be hosting the event, called Share the Love, at their Sands Township location.
All adoption fees will be waived for the event. The grant that makes this event possible was for $3,300. UPAWS staff say events like this really help, especially when the number of animals they have is high.
"Our census is very high right now especially with dogs and cats, so having an event like this shines the limelight on our shelters and that we need adopters and that these pets want to go into a nice home," said UPAWS Community Outreach Coordinator, Ann Brownell.
The Share the Love adoption event is Saturday, August 17, from 12-5 p.m. The UPAWS facility is located in Sands Township, just south of the crossroads.
